Earlier I asked .."What are the seat belt laws in your state?" I would like to know your thoughts.

Personally, I agree that we should be responsible to make our children use them.

As for me, I feel it is my right to decide if I want to wear it or not! Yes, maybe it will save my life, but it could also distroy it. I wear it, and really it does not bother me; but I know that this is a pretty big deal to a lot of people.

Let's agree it is your "right" to wear one or not
Let's then also agree that when you are involved in a severe accident and not wearing your belt that
1. You have forfeited your "right" to be extricated form the wreck
2. You have forfeited your "right" to be medically treated and transported
3. You have forfeited your "rights" to your automobile and medical Insurance
4. If anyone else was injured, and the accident is your fault, you are now criminally guilty, as failing to wear your seat belt MAY have caused a more severe accident than would have been otherwise
5. You are now fully responsible for the injury or death of any rescue personnel who responded to the accident scene....where you decided you had the "Right"..not to wear your belt
6. Forget that "trapped by seat belts BS"...Seat belts save lives....they do not take them

It should be your decicion, how much saftey you choose to have doesn't need to be governed. Politians are expensive and make laws about such things so they will look busy while important things don't get handled. The goal here is saftey supposedly; Safer roads would come from a much tougher licensing system, too many people are driving that have no business on the road. Quality driving would have a huge impact on saftey and the seat belt would be nearly a mute question.

Yes you have a right to decide in your main, But if the law say do some thing your rights do not matter. Whats more in portent your right or you paying a find? Most state do this because so many people has died because they did not have on their set belt. When a person die , their not the only one that hurt, We all do.

I hear you when you say it is your right to do with your life as you please. I have heard of a few stories where the seat belt didn't help the situation. And i also hear you when you say that we should be responsible to make our children use them.

I'm not too keen on them myself but I do wear them. It did save my life once or perhaps save me a hell of a lot of pain and damage to myself as it held me back from going through the windscreen.

I would however never advise anyone not to wear one. In fact i insist on anyone under the age of 18 in my car to wear one or else they walk. Their lives are my responsibility! As for older, i dont always wear it as a passenger but i should know better and so should they. Perhaps my attitude is wrong....

I think wearing your seatbelt is far safer than not wearing it. It's rare to be trapped in your car because of it, more often than not, it keeps you from shattering the windsheild with your head. My dad used to tell me that for adults, seatbelts and helmets should be optional because then all the stupid people will get themselves killed and remove themselves from the gene pool. I disagree, but you get the point. In Washington state, it's the law.
