If anyone here was captured by Iran, wouldn't you want to be saved? The sailors did nothing wrong, they should be let go. I say let's go get them.

More than half of all the wars after theUN was set up werecapable of being avoided through seious Diplomatic negotiations. But when creating a war on one pretext or other is what the Arms Manufacturers want, the concerned political leadership surrender their better judgment to what they tout as overriding National Interests and push the situations that precipitate war. What we see now in Iran isn't much different a situation and the possiblity of a war emerging, depite potential for settlement, is very great. But the other option may also materialise in dramatic ways.If the South Koreans and the Japanese had not worked behind the scenes to avoid a war in their backyard, the current round of negotiations with North Korea would not have materialised. Similarly, the EU countries and others averse to a war right now with Iran, driving up Oil prices may prevail over the war calls.

Highly doubt it.

First, the US and Britain have lost their will for "overseas adventures" due to the Iraq invasion. 2nd, the US and Britain are already involved in two land wars - Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as numerous military commitments elsewhere. In order to start a war / invasion, they would have to pull resources from other locations, or call up even more reserves, both of which are politically unpopular in the US and Britain.

Since Iran is neighbors with both Iraq and Afghanistan, this also removes the possibility of a limited strike. A limited strike is used when your enemy has no chance of striking back at you easily. Since Iran is a neighboring country, they would easily have the ability to strike at US and British military forces by sending over troops (through, I believe that the US would relish the chance to meet Iran in a conventional battlefield, where the US Army excels in warfare).

Given all of the above, I don't think that it is probable that either the US or Britain would go to war against Iran, or even perform a limited strike. However, all it takes is one misstep by any of the countries, and we could find ourselves in one, regardless if we want to or not.

To even consider that would hurt, if ignorance could hurt. Once the public had recuperated from the 9/11 shock and realized, that Bush had abused his carte blanche, there was no support left for his idiotic adventures. War is not a game our soldiers play 8000 miles away, its real, its ugly and its counterproductive. For every terrorist they kill, 20 take his place. there are 1,600,000,000 muslims left and they give birth at a rate of 55,000 a day. You better start making up with them, or they smoke you in a waterpipe, making your daugher bellydance.

This a classic example of what liberal appeasement accomplish. The only reason why Iran did this, they observe the dissension here (ex rep Murphy crying in the house)this does not inspire fear or respect from your enemy but contempt.

Thus the Iranians smell weaknest with Britain and the US with our liberal bedwetters. Many of you snot noses don't remember that the Iranians tried to mine the straits in 1987 Reagan destroyed their navy, case close. This is why I don't want these limp wristed liberals running this country

President Ahmedinejad would like very much for us to declare war on him so he can stir up even more Anti US and Anti British sentiment in the Middle East and beyond. He is terrified that Congress will force President Bush to withdraw our troops from Iraq. Iran and Iraq have a LONG history of enmity, so the Iranians want us to stay there.

If the US Administration is smart (and so far, in 6 years, I haven't seen much evidence of that) they won't oblige Iran.

I don;t think we have enough troops to open another war. Maybe we can drop unwanted Christian missionaries on Iran in little parachutes.
