A light chocolate would work better for the trim unless you like the "fancy battleship" look.

Wife did our bedroom in chocolate and burgundy and I think it looks fantastic. To each their own I guess.

OK, so what's the point?

Spelling ain't your thang, is it?

Note that even the best quality paints will not cover in one coat with any shade of red. The red colorant is inherently transparent; you will want to use a base coat primer of light to medium gray before the first coat of red. The darker the red, the less titanium dioxide that's in the the can. The TO2 is what makes paint white. In order to make the darker color, the TO2 is reduced and the colorant does more work.

As for the trim (baseboards), you need to scuff sand them or prime them to ensure that the new semi-gloss will adhere properly. Oil or Latex is irrelevant so long as you have properly prepared the surface.

I would suggest a lighter color on three walls and the dark color on an accent wall. Factors such as lighting (natural and artificial) will determine how you select your colors. Also, note that "cheap" paints are actually more expensive because they will require more material to cover the same area. Cheaper paints have less solids content; the solids are what remain on the wall after the paint dries.

I think burgundy is a great color for the walls. Remember though that the darker the color the smaller the room will appear. Don't know about gray base broads. If you really want gray I would go for a darker shade. You might also consider a real dark beige, or a mahogony brown, which you can get with a hint of gray in them.

I think the burgandy and grey is a great combo!
I do however think you should do the lighter color(grey)as the walls and the burgandy as the base board.
My reason is that it would be too dark
.Not only that but you have to think ahead ........how many coats of primer to cover burgandy ??when you want to change it again.

Red and Burgundy dont cover very well....you will have to apply 2 probaly 3 coats..use a good paint . Not Dutch Boy or Color Pace...... I recently painted my sons room Med evil red or blood red...it really looks good....the Gray base boards..not to sure about that .... I think a Gold color would probally go better....JMO....Match the gray and the red before you buy your paint with the color swatch that are avabile at the Paint store to see how they look together ....Good Luck
