I would just show up - you don't want him to get mixed signals - (you might be texting so you two could hook up). You're there for his sis and he knows how good of friends you are, so if you bump into him, say hi and be nice, but don't make a big deal out of it. That should keep it from being awkward and possibly putting a damper on your friend's b-day.

Just show up. You are not obligated to tell him you're staying the night (unless you have intentions to be with him). You are going over as his sisters friend, not his ex girlfriend. No warning is required.

Text the sister and just ask her to make sure her bro knows you are coming so it won't be uncomfortable. Tell her you are looking forward to spending some time with her on her special day and you don't want anything to take away from the time you have together. :)

Girl go, stay and let it be a surprise to him. But don't you think he probably knows already being that you are his sister friend? Go anyway and don't tell him, I just hope the real reason why you are going is totally for your friend and not for him. Why would you tell him if you are not there for him you are there for her.

You're making a huge blunder by staying over night at the house (find a motel.) Be careful.

Just show up like you usually would. You are not going there to spend time with him, but with his sister.

Show up as usual and have fun with the birthday girl.
If you contact him beforehand, he may think you still have an interest in him.
