If god created the entire universe some 4000-6000 years ago, and light takes time to travel, how is it even possible that the light from stars that are millions of light years away have time to get here for us to see them?
For those that don't know what a light year is(as I suspect many that this question is directed to will not) It is the distance that light travels in a year, so for a star that is one light year away, what we see of it, is delayed by one year, thus a star that is 1 million light years away, what we see is delayed by 1 million years.

Why would god want to create details to decieve us? It makes no sense to create light that takes time to travel, make light sources so far away, and then try to trick us into thinking that the universe is a different age than it is.

This is very informative. The depth to which people are willing to decieve themselves is staggering.

Time is our linear perception of the universe, so yes, time had to exist for things to occur in our perspective.

The Bible does not say it ws 6000 years ago where do you guys get that from.It says" God created the heavens and the earth". After that it could have been a billion years before the next sentence.Later when God creates Adam and Eve ,he tells them "Replenish " the earth. That means there must have been something here before that needs re- stocking.
Three of the stupidist and most widely asked Qs:
1) Your Question
2) Where did Cain get his wife
3) How did Noah get all those animals on the Ark.

First, I take Genesis 1:1 to be a complete statement. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth" so I don't believe that the universe was created a mere 4000-6000 years ago. I do believe that this "age of creation" is not very old. I get this from a literal translation of the phrase 'without form and void' when referring to the earth. The Hebrew meaning of the phrase literally means that something existed here but was totally wiped out. Perhaps an earlier creation existed that killed itself or God wiped it out. At any rate, I have no problem believing that the universe is quite old and that light from stars would have plenty of time to reach us. Of course a less sophisticated way to answer your question too is that God could easily have changed the laws of physics to accomodate light reaching earth more quickly but that spawns the question "Why?".

According to the Bible, when God created Adam and Eve, they were mature adults. If you were to have looked at them that first day, you would have assumed that they were "older" then they really were.
When God created the trees, it was a fully mature plants, ready to "bear seeds" and reproduce, according to the Bible. Had you looked at one of those trees, you would have assumed it was decades (or even centuries) old.
When God created the universe (stars, planets, light, etc) he created them also fully mature. They look to be older and more developed then they are. The lights (which are physical particles streaming out from the stars, planets, etc) were placed fully mature as well. So that particle from a star a million light years away were already in place a million light years (and more) from the star.
Only makes sense when you look at the story of creation in the Bible. It is science that has a hard time understanding it.

God did not create the entire universe 4 - 6 thousand years ago. The earth existed prior to the 6 days of creation. The bible says it was covered with water and wind blew across the surface of it. Read the story for yourself if you doubt me.

poseidenneptune,
Remember that you are using man made ideas to explaine GOD. Why do i say that? Because it is man who uses terms like , Light year.
When God created the sun and stars the light it was created in an instant. and he brought forth the light to the earth.
Now today we measure that distance in light years. how ever that will not tell you any thing other then how far the light had to travel.
Think of a sling shot. You toss a rock it go's 5 feet then hits the ground. You put that same rock in a sing shot and it will hit 20 feet. Not to odd to think that God couldnt pull the light to us, only to later allow us to measure the distance and stand in awe of his awsome creation.

My favorite is Crab Nebula which is 6,300 light years away. The supernova was seen in 1054. This means the star exploded before it was created.

LOL I once asked this and got all kinds of nonsense, like 'god days are not the same as human days', and the best one 'god placed all the photons in just the right position for day 0'

Why do you question what God can do. Like Job, you are trying to explain what God can do, yet God says "were you there when I created the world." God can surely work out little details while He was working with major details.

Your interpretation is of what you see now and thats ok since you didn't live that long ago. However if you read the Bible you will see that God made things fully mature. Your real problem is with the omnipotent nature of God. "Poof" there it is, is not a problem for Him.
