It's not that you have to go through deathly illness or being sick all the time. In my experience, I tend to get sick when my faith is weak.
The thing is, there are a lot of people out there who have nice house, cars, basically everything a person could want. And these people say, "Look how the good Lord has blessed us! We sure are good christians!" But the fact of the matter is, most of these people didn't acquire these things by the grace of God, they were selfish and took a lot for themselves.
It only means that you have to suffer or go through some tough times in order to understand the suffering of Christ. These people who have always had everything handed to them but claim to be christians have no idea the real sufferings of Christ.
In the bible, God says, "The least of my people will be the greatest of my people." Therefore that would lead us to believe that those of us who have one heck of a road to get down will see the light at the end of the tunnel one day. We cannot and will not live like this forever. But God commends us for our strife and will reward us for our faith.
It's easy for people to say that they are christians when they have everything. It's even harder to say you're a christian when you have nothing.

The word suffer as used in the Gospels refers to tolerance. When Christ said suffer the little children he means allow, tolerate, accept. English is a fluid language and words constantly evolve and change.

However, the first followers of Christ did suffer considerably. Many were killed and tortured.

well firstly why wouldnt anyone want to be healthy or sane. Well the Bible tells us in john 10:10 that " he came so that we may have life and have it more abundantly" besides being a christian is no easy job, you do have to be in your right mind to carry out the task that we were given "go ye into the world and preach the gospel" you ought to be sane to do that dont you think.

Who told you that you must suffer greatly like Christ to go to heaven????

Odd statement, I am over 40 years old and have never had anyone tell me that.

Peace!

One does not HAVE to suffer greatly to go to heaven. One must live one's life according to the commandments & the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is mostly about the choices we make in our lives which will determine our life's worth. The bible & the commandments are designed to teach one how to live one's life by making better choices. Some choices may cause great suffering but are the right choice.

Not to be rude, but to put it bluntly, it is just a fact that the very limited number of Anointed Christians that are going to heaven, did suffer. However, to have everlasting life is not contingent upon going to heaven. God created the earth for humans...that is our proper dwelling place, just like all the spirit creatures dwell in heaven. Please read the following Scriptures carefully...

Isaiah 45:18: "For this is what Jehovah has said, the Creator of the heavens, He the [true] God, the Former of the earth and the Maker of it, He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited"

Psalm 37: 9-11, 29: "9 For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth. 10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. 11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
29 The righteous themselves will possess the earth,
And they will reside forever upon it."

(Notice that it says FOREVER)

Matthew 5:5: "“Happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth."

Psalm 72:8:7 & 8: "In his days the righteous one will sprout,
And the abundance of peace until the moon is no more.
8 And he will have subjects from sea to sea And from the River to the ends of the earth."

Revelation 21:3 & 4: "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with MANKIND, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

The above verse is speaking of MANKIND, if this was in heaven, we would no longer be mankind. The earth was created for humans, and this is our proper dwelling place, God's purposes for mankind have not changed.

Isaiah 55:11: "so my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it."

You don't have to suffer greatly like Christ to go to heaven. You may as well as why you have to drink cherry limeade to be America's Next Top Model.

The logic there is that we dont need to undergo physical suffering like Jesus because he has done it already. we must suffer spiritually or practice self-control over desires that are bad to our well being so we be healthy and happy.

Hello. For starters friend, Jesus Christ and receiving Him is the way to heaven. Repenting of one's sins, receiving regeneration by His spirit is the key. We as children of God having been reborn are called to partake in Christ's suffering in order to fulfill His work in our life. We are to be conformed into the IMAGE of Christ, and partaking in His sufferings are part of that. Yet the grace of God is present as He will NOT put more upon us than we can bear... that's HIS promis. This is dealing with the EXCHANGE we make with God: we receive His mercy and forgiveness of sins and thereby EXCHANGE our filthy rags of righteousness for HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. We become the righteosness of God in Christ, and He takes our sins and makes us new... LITERALLY a NEW creation. Partaking in the sufferings of Christ may be happening physically, but in the Atonement God provided divine healing and health for us. We partake in His sufferings, but we should be sane so we can be of use in the kingdom of God! God would not have us going around in His name insane. He would have us walking aright with Him, taking the authority He's given us by the Name of Jesus, and walk in the spirit... sane and of use to the lost souls who don't know Him. A sane mind coupled with the mind of Christ is useful to functin in the calls of God, to defend the faith, and to preach God's word with authority and under the unction of the Holy Spirit. God can and does use the foolish things to CONFOUND the wise.. and scripture says the WEAKNESS of God is STRONGER than man. So be a child of God with sanity and with a body that's free to serve HIM!
