Try using hair straighteners to curl your hair - I find that they work brilliantly. The link below explains perfectly how to curl your hair using them.

You should get some products that increase curls in hair. They have shampoo and conditioner, and gels. I would wash your hair with the shampoo and conditioner, then hand dry your hair with a towel. Work some of the gel into your hair, then scrunch all over. Then use some styling and scrunch that into your hair like the gel. It also might help to take one of those round attachments for a blow dryer, that are made espcially for curling your hair.

My hair used to be way past my shoulders too, I used to wash my hair then plait it while still damp, in the morning I had beautifully wavy hair which would last nearly all day because it had dried that way.
Don't put loads of products in your hair, that is what will weigh it down and the curls will not stay.

This is what I do personally: Get some mousse and some rollers; whatever size you want the curls to be. Wash and blow your hair dry. Do this section by section because mousse dries really quick on dry hair. Apply mousse on section for roller, roll hair. Do this all over head, and in 30-45 minutes your hair will be curly! Apply some oil because mousse can leave flakes : ( , Finger comb or use a comb to distribute and you're out the door. PLEASE TRY THIS. I JUST DID MY HAIR YESTERDAY, AND IT LOOKS FANTASTIC!

Try this...
Wash your hair before going to bed, and semi-dry your hair. Put some mousse through your hair and then make two plaits. Spray hairspray over your two plaits. Then sleep with these. Next morning you can take your plaits out, and you should end up with some nice broad curls that lasts for a little while.
Works for me.

Maybe add some product first, check with your hairdresser to see what they recommend. First I would not do it with clean hair, they say a day dirty is better, that it will hold the curl longer. Second, I would use some curl product and see if it helps!

in the morning after you take your shower, while your hair is still wet, use some gel, mousse, and sprunch spray. then, scrunch all of these in one at a time in that order. when you're done, add a little bit of hair spray to make it hold better. it takes like 15 minutes to do...

have you tryed crunching? get your hair wet like right after teh shower. and jus run your hand through your hair and grab big chunks and squeeze. look it up if this doesnt help...but make sure you use a TON of hairspray to keep the curl.
