Well all religions began as cults, or do we all forget this?

Does no one remember when the Cult of the Nazarene existed in the Roman Empire?

The issue with modern society is that any new idea or theory about the divine is always assumed as a cult, with the connotation of moral corruption and some kind of anarchist government take-over of some sort.

People are just foolish.

Because where as cults tend to be secretive and frowned upon by most, religions are celebrated and supported by most. As you say they are just cults on a larger scale and that is the answer to your question. Say no to jesus.

I have always thought the only difference between the two is social acceptance. Now I've got this Psych class and apparently there is one difference. You won't be killed for leaving a church, mosk, temple, etc. Just socially shunned. Real improvement, huh?
