My partner wakes up the same way. Maybe you are drinking too many fizzy drinks as the Caramel is fizzy drinks can do this too you, especially Coke of Pepsi.
Try drinking a glass of water before you go to bed, it should help, if not make sure to gargle before bed when you brush your teeth.
If that does not help - sleep with the window slightly open as being dehidrated can also contibute to the saliva problem.

That happens to me every once in a while. I figured they were just random occurrences until reading your question.
Pay attention to what you eat right before bed. Salty foods cause your mouth to water. And if you are not the type to brush before you sleep those particles could be activating your saliva glands during the night.
Also try rinsing with an alcohol based mouthwash like Listerine. I read an article stating that alcohol based mouthwashes dry out the mouth, which isn't good for those with chronic halotosis, but may help balance out your bed time water works.
Let me know if this works.
