My fiancé and I have decided to serve the wedding cake as dessert rather that giving it to our guest in boxes. Would this be proper?

Hi Kathy,

Thats perfectly fine. It's your day and you should make the arrangements according to your will. I think it's wonderful that you're trying to cut costs. It shows how much you are focussed on 'marriage' rather than just the 'wedding'.

Congratulations and Good luck.

Actually I'm from the south and I've never heard of getting the cake in boxes to take home. It's a wedding--you don't get a doggy box for the buffet. You eat it as part of the celebration. It is the dessert--thats the point of it.

I've never been to a wedding that gave you cake boxes b/c that gives the people who don't like cake/dieting/no carb lifestyle the option of not having any and you are left with one big piece that is easy to take home instead of 50 lil boxes.

To address the prior post of so much food going to waste--we didnt have hardly any food leftover. But friends that got married about 3 weeks before us did and her parents took the leftover food to the homeless shelter. She called a church and a mission in the area and they came and picked up the leftover food. That way you are helping out humanity instead of throwing it away.

Traditionally you cut the cake and feed it to each other, then the caterers cut it up into the hundred pieces or whatever and everyone digs in. So not only is it proper, it is the only proper way to do it.

It's your wedding, you do whatever you want. Plus, in all the weddings that I have every been to or been in, including my own, I have never ever heard of any bride purchasing special wedding "boxes" so guests could take home cake! The cake has always been served as dessert and if there was any left and someone wanted to take a piece home they wrapped it in a napkin.

Wedding cake boxes are totally a thing of the past. You and your husband can cut the cake and have it served immediatly. If you like, you can save the rest of the cake and have very colse immediate family over the day after the wedding to enjoy cake and watch you open gifts. Enjoy and Congratulations!

YES! Most people want the cake right away. Don't waste your money on cake boxes. I don't know where you are, but I'm in the Midwest US and I have never been to a wedding where anyone used a cake box.

Yes, it's actually tradition. Have some boxes on hand for those wanting to take some cake home. Also, to get more out of the food your serving, have some boxes for people to take food home if they so choose. Seriously, so much food and cake goes to waste these days at weddings.

It's your wedding! Do what makes you happy! I would rather spend more money on the music and food so that I have a great time with my guests than on silly stuff like doggie bags for cake! Keep thinking smart!! Save money so you can splurge on other things! Congrats and good luck!

I think its fine. That's what we are doing...I've never seen it done any other way...and I've been to a ton of weddings!! You could always get a few cake boxes to try and get rid of some of the cake that will be left over...that way you aren't spending as much. I know you can get them at the craft store...and they are only a couple bucks. AC Moore here has a package of I think 25 for $2.99.

Good luck and Congrats!!!

I honestly never heard of giving the wedding cake in boxes.... Most weddings as well as mine was celebrated there with our family and guest and cut and then serve to everyone.....Weddings are a one time affair and marriage is forever. Focus on enjoying your wedding day and preparing your lives after..........

Best wishes*********

WHo uses those darn boxes anymore anyways. Serve the wedding cake at the wedding! Why not, every wedding I have been going to is doing it. :)
