If you are a licensed driver but for some reason or another do not have your drivers license when you are pulled over, is this anything serious? For example, I routinely run up the street to the gas station for quick grocery items and forget my license. Is this a big deal?

its not that big of a deal. Here in Texas you will might get a ticket, the key is to not argue becuase technically you are wrong. Usually if the officer is in a good mood he will look for you in the system by searching your name and adress. If you do get a ticket, on the day you go to court, show the judge your license and they will dismiss it.

If you are pulled over, and the computer system shows you have a valid licence, you can get a "failure to produce" ticket. If the computer shows your licence is invalid, or lapsed, or the computer system is down, you will get a ticket for driving without a licence, and you will have to produce proof your licence was valid when you go to court. Don't leave home without it! If the place is just up the street, by the way, why aren't you walking?

Its up to the cop. You always need id on you anyway. Driving without a license gets you a ticket.

unless things have changed, I was told that you have a certain amount of time (hours) to prove you have a license. so if you are pulled over doing a quick run up the street...you should be able to tell the officer you left it at home and then have him/her take you back and get it to prove you do indeed have one

You can usually just give your social security # and they will go from there if you just explain..but TECHNICALLY you can go to jail! You are supposed to have a valid driver's license EVERY time you drive.

This is serious and can result in a fine. Carry your license in your wallet.
