If so what kind? I've been having a lump on top of my head that's been there for years(about 5) and it would give me a headache. I just recently cut my long hair and let a professional do it. A week later, I wake up with a splitting head ache so I put my hand on the lump and it was huge(bigger than before), I didn't think anything of it b/c I have two kids I must feed in the morning so, I was about to fix something for them to eat and while I was about to wash my hands, there was this yellowish pink stuff on my hands that look like hard puss. So I went in the bathroom and looked at the lump-I can't see it but know where the area is and I pressed it and a lot of puss came out. I was grossed out! I pushed on it a little more and more came out. My fiancee came home & I showed him & even more puss came out. I know there's more in there but I'm too afraid 2 push more. I don't know how deep it is or anything. What should I do? The lump did go down a little. What to do? Gross huh!

Hi ya. This sounds like a cyst. You have probably 'emptied' out the worst of it but you should see your doctor so he/ she can examine it.The fact that it has been there so long would indicate that it is isolated - this meaning that it is a sack like pouch and the infection hasnt spread. However it is reoccuring so this means it has never really cleared up. It may also be a blocked hair follicle that has become infected. Either way - See your doctor. I am sure you ll have a smooth, gross free head in no time!!

You should definitely go to a doctor. A general or family doctor should be fine. If a referral to a specialist is necessary that will be your next step.

When my daughter was younger, she had a soft indention in her head. It wasn't exactly painful, but her hair around this spot fell out. I thought that she needed to go to the dermatologist. I took her to her regular pediatrician for a referral and was advised that it was simply a scalp infection. There is no known cause and I was advised that hers was not contagious. She received oral antibiotics and a scalp shampoo which we had to use once weekly. Her infection cleared within 2 months and her hair has grown back. At the time I was so freaked out and had never heard of such. After we went through it I met other people who have had the same issue. It's not as uncommon as you think.

You should be fine. Make an appointment today and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Im not a doctor, but it sounds like an "ingrown hair". I get it on my face. After the puss is out it usually heals. But since youve had it so long, YES, go see a doctor. Better safe than sorry.
