I am having a Lunch buffet for an August Wedding. Do I offer hors d'oeuvres? If so, how many per person? The buffet will have a salad, 3 choices for an entree (sirloin, chicken & salmon), red potatoes, veggie medley and 5 choices of cake slices! They can get 2nds and even 3rds. Is offering hors d'oeuvres over kill? Should I just add a soup or fancy fruit cup for starters?

Hot hors d'oeuvres much be a little much for a lunch. I personally would perfer the soup or fruit cups. You could do a cold soup too since your having it in August which is really nice. But in all honesty if you have cocktails.... I would do cheese and crackers, fruit and a veggie tray instead.

Your menu sounds lovely and more than adequate for lunch! You really don't need anything else but as another answerer mentioned if there is going to be much of a delay between the ceremony and the meal due to pictures you might want to offer some light finger foods just to pass the time for the guests.

Are you having a cocktail hour for your recpetion? If so then yes, you will need hors d'oeuvres, its something for your guests to do while you are off taking your pictures, you dont just want them milling around until the recption starts. Speak to your caterer, they will be able to guage upon the amount of guests how many you will need.

Good luck

Most hotels that cater to weddings, will inform you of the quantity that is usually consumed per individual, as they have experience with such things. I use to work for Hilton International, and I am sure if you speak to some in the Banquet department they will help you with this question and any others you may have with regards to quantity of food and drinks.

Just offer light finger food at social hour to complement the drinks.

You can have cheese, fruit and cracker trays neat the bar.

Good luck
