i should have added that shes a yorki-poo mix about 7 lbs or cuteness. We adopted her when she was about 3-4 monthes old. since the beginning we have never crated her. she is potty trained. all her baby teeth are gone. she has never had a chewing problem. there was one shoelace that was a casualty. we leave shoes everywhere, big stuff animals everywhere. and if she can tell which ones are her toys and not stuff animals im AMAZED!! that spot most have been drenched in gooey goodness.

People think that because they buy their dog toys, and an expensive crate, and nice bed, and pretty leash and collar, that their dog out of sheer loyalty will not eat their stuff. Doesn't work that way at all :)
They need training, LOTS of exercise and they need to be crate trained. SHe obviously had a good amount of time that she was left alone in order to lick the carpet til she decide that she was going to start chewing, then to actually get it chewed and eaten.
She is bored, and lonely and sometimes things just get out of control when you get started on them....
If she has eaten the carpet and hasn't passed it, she is likely going to be in trouble and need the vet to help her get it out. Carpet tends to start cutting into things, and packing up really good in the guts.
More exercise, and training and she'll likely leave your stuff alone, if not, then the crate is what you use to keep her safe.

she must not have liked the color! lol, well seriously though, it isn't all that strange for dogs to go through a regression between 3 and 6 months. suddenly your puppy, who was doing so well... rebounds, and becomes a teenage terror. Go back to the basics as far as no chew training goes. Watch her better and make sure she always has plenty of chew toy. Alternate the toys too so she doesn't get bored. get a basket and put it where she can't reach it. get some bitter apple spray and spray the carpet with it when you notice her chewing. Good luck

I've got a four month old Yorkie that does the same thing. I know he's teething really bad (you should see my wall too). I was told by my vet to give my pup some baby carrots. Its good for them and it satisfies his craving to chew. Almost like a natural form of Oragel.

You probablly spilt some food on that spot.
Besides having fantastic noses, just inside the roof of the mouth is an organ called the Jacobson's organ or the nasal-vomero organ, which helps the dog process the different smells.

Boredom with her toys. Being alone too long, and too often--how else did she get the time to chew the hole without you noticing long before it ever became a hole?
You must accept some blame in this.

You may want to take your pup to the vet. When I was growing up we had a Dane that ate carpet. It ended up wrapping around his intestines and after multiple surgeries removing the dead sections of his intestines he still died. Carpet can be very dangerous to your pet.

Puppies like to chew, and will continue to do so. Buy your puppy some chew toys and maybe he will find he likes those better than your things!
