my friend thinks stomach acid will keep her safe.

Yes she can get it even if she doesn't swallow.It is absorbed though the membranes in your mouth.Stomach acid can not I repeat can not kill the aids virus.

Call your local health department! Yes you can! This other guy is not in medicine and is falsely making statements that can endanger young people or anyone that read what he put as an answer. It will and can cause a std's of the throat, and mouth. Ask your doctor or any health professional it is a fact there has been epidemics at middle schools because of thinking this. They will have to do a throat culture to test her or anyone doing this.

Can you catch it via fellatio, YES. Does swallowing increase your chances, NO.
All STDs caught orally are done via exposure to the causitive agent (bacteria, virus, etc), in the mouth. Your friend is correct that the stomoch acids do protect her some, but only by denaturing the bacteria and viruses that make it to the stomoch. It doesn't protect you from the viruses/bacteria still in the mouth.
That doesn't mean she cannot catch it, only that swallowing doesn't increase the risk!
