I've had people recommend "Size" glue and sugar soap. Do any of these work and what would people recommend?

You say that you are going to line a stripped wall.

Unfortunately, you do not say what sort of condition the wall is in. I presume that there was paper on the wall before therefore you would not have to size the wall and in theory you should not have to line the wall.

A good quality paper should take to the stripped surface as long as you have spent time preparing the wall.

Sugar Soap is good for removing all the old glue. It also prepares the surface for new paper to slide easier.

If you have done any repairs to the plater or if its bare you will need to size the walls. Either use wallpaper paste and letit dry first or I usually buy some cheap white emulsion, thin it a little and use this.
Basically if you don't size the walls plaster will absorb the moisture in th wallpaper paste and the paper won't stay stuck to the walls.
