If someone dies on a Saturday, they will most probably be autopsied on Monday and released to the funeral home on Monday as well. Whoever said autopsies take days is completely incorrect, bodies are autopsied as soon as possible so the family can proceed with the funeral arrangements. He also said the embalming and prep takes 24 hours, also incorrect. Embalming is completed in 2-3 hours on an autopsied body.

Depends on when the medical examiner is done with the autopsy, as soon as they are done the funeral home will pick the body up and bring it to the funeral home and do their work. Then they will be ready by the day before usually for the viewing before the funeral.

If an autopsy is scheduled, very unlikely that the funeral will occur on Wednesday. An autopsy may take several days to complete.

Without an autopsy, the body is taken to the funeral home immediatly after removal from the location of death. Embalming and prep generally takes 24 hours.
