Its very true, as Americans we're taught from a very young age life and the world is filled with unless opportunities. All you need to do is believe it, and you WILL achieve it.
We all know someone who went from Rags to Riches, we see it on TV everyday. We've seen the ugly ducklings of the world, turn into beautiful swans. We come from a land of excess, leased luxury cars, designer knock-offs, "creative financing", and layaway. For us...unfortunately, there's no such thing as the word "no". The only red stop signs in society are all in your mind.
Im not saying its the right way to be, or the wrong way...but it IS (like it or not) the American way.

I can't tell you for men, but I can assure you that girls want it all. It's not enough to have a great guy and a nice job, we have to have plenty of shiny stuff, sexual pleasure, nice clothes, more time to shop, more money to shop, travel to other places...it never ends! But I imagine it's the same for guys, they are just focused on different things...like girls want jewelry, guys want cars...
I'm not judging or saying that there is anything wrong with it (maybe I am)...this is human nature: we always want more and we always are reaching for the stars...but this is what kept us going through the last, oh, I don't know, 200.000 years???!! That is what brought us the modern way of life...we always strive to be more than we can be and so far, as much as it has brought us grief, it has done many good things too!
Maybe it is true that this is distinct not only for Americans, but for the Western culture in general, but look at other cultures...they are far behind...why?

I think that if a guy really likes a girl, he'd stop worry about how much she wants and just love her and give it to her.

its just a funny opinion. some people are like that (mostly female) but not all are high matenance like that
