Is it too early to start potty training? I know that 2 yrs is the optimal time, but my son's VERY interested. Can I start this early if we make it an undemanding experience... just to sort of give him the general idea? He has a very large vocabulary (200 or so words) and often tells me when he's peeing or pooping. He also applauds Daddy and me when we go and says, "Yay, Potty!" I'm a stay-at-home mom so I have the time to devote to this, can it work or are we too eager?

I would try it. If he doesnt take to it, then stop for a few weeks then try again. Good luck!

You should wait until he can walk to the potty, pull his pants up and down himself, and do it himself.

I tried at 2 with my son, he exhibited all the classic signs, too. He would pee and poop on the potty (with my help). Then he would wet his pants 5 minutes later. We'd go back to the potty, where he'd pee again, and 10 minute later would wet his pants.

It's worth a try, but the doctor told me that often until they are 3 (not the number you wanted to hear, I know!) they don't have the MUSCLE CONTROL. That was clearly the case with my son. I waited again until he was three, and he was fully trained in less than 24 hours, no accidents.

I know it's cool to say 'my son was potty trained at 1 1/2', but it can be alot of work. And, the truth is YOU were trained (because you took him constantly and helped him).

My recommendation is to wait until he's closer to three, and do it in one day, when he's really ready.

if he showing interest then hes ready, although he may be ready its still a long process so will still take time and he could lose interest its common for kids to do that then start again 6 months later dont worry if he does that just dont push him or it may make the process even longer. Praise him lots when he does go potty that will encourgae him lots try pull up or underwear to help him learn to pull down before going, also keep asking him if he needs to go, the question that works with my daughter is "are wees/poos coming?" good luck

I've started to a certain degree with my son who is the same age as yours. We have the potty around so he gets used to it. He poos after breakfast so I let him roam free without a nappy on after brekkie and plonk him on the potty when he looks like he's about to go! Its worked a few times and he is grasping the idea. I am not expecting miracle results straightaway but the way I see it, the sooner he gets ussed to it the easier it will be!

If he shows interest go ahead and start . It is actually easier to potty train them before their 2nd birthday because they are less set in their ways and are more willing to accept help.

i think it can work, my boy is now 13 months and ever since he started walking his daddy toke him to the loo with him. Last night when i got him ready for his bath he stood next to the loo holding his privates and peed.

so no i don't think you are to eager.

Our daughter was 17 months old when we started with her, she would tell us when she peed and pooped so we knew it was time.
