It's never too old. We had a rescue dog neutered at age 6 years.

Dogs can be neutered any time after 6 months old, so 9 months is fine to get him neutered. Even if he's older, it's fine.

There is no such thing as too old, if the dog is in otherwise good health. But you might want to take care of it soon anyway: It will save you and a number of girl dogs some problems!

It is never too old to do it. When they are younger it will alter the personality. i.e. less agressive males, no in heat, etc. When they are older it is more for protection from over-population.

Actually, a dog can be spayed anytime after his testicles drop (meaning anytime after he physically matures).
