Here is what I was taught and it has worked for me for 14 years. If I don't feel like working out - I start the work out and if, after 10 minutes, I still can't seem to get my body going, then I stop. 99% of the time when a work out is started, it is finished. The hardest part of the work out is getting started. Honest. For almost all of us. So, tell yourself 10 minutes and I'll see how I feel then. 10 minutes isn't any time at all and chances are excellent that you will finish the work out.

Chigga - Going to the gym at the start is a pain in the *ss. It is boring, repetitive, takes up time and effort and worst of all - hard work. And yes, there will always be an excuse - tired, busy, work (God forbid), places to go, people to see - not to go to the gym.

Start by getting comfortable with the gym.
Set out fixed days to go - maybe three times a week - one hour at a time. Then find something that you like doing (maybe 'like' is too strong a word) - but something that feels like you are getting results. This maybe something that burns calories quickly (motivating) - like the cross trainer - or something that get you out of breath and sweating (satisfying) - like running or rowing or an activity that is more refreshing - like swimming.
When you have found some activity that suits you then spend most of your workout at that - and then add in a varied few to work a few more muscle groups (e.g sit ups, weights or whatever).

Give yourself a month - a whole month - without defering from your plan. Do it hail, rain or shine.

And then by the time the month is up - you will feel better, fitter, more toned... and ever so slightly addicted to that excercise rush. And once you have discovered you actually do like it- you will want to go! Good luck!

I know its a drag getting yourself to the gym, but put on you gym gear and get there. Once your there and start the workout you will feel so much better afterwards. Its the motivation you lack in getting there, thats why i joined a gym right near work, i just finish work and head to the gym instead of the carpark, sometimes im soooooo tired and couldnt be bothered going but you know what?......I feel so much better after the workout. Get busy and off you go

Just get into your workout clothes and then you are half way there. That is what works for me. Good luck and have fun!! I love working on my arms.
