Dog food used to contain all sorts of nasty padding ingredients, such as chalk, that led to the proliferation of white poo or, as it is known on the continent, le merde blanc.
Nowadays regulations prevent these ingredients from being included in pet food, resulting in le merde brun.

I think it's because there are so many laws/fines about dog poo, that owners pick it up. Therefore you don't see it.
