People can add you as their "friend" because they need a self-esteem boost, and they can collect contacts like they're seashells. It seems to happen on R&S more than any other section.

For some people, high school never, ever ends.

Personally, I think it's pathetic that people come here looking for friendship. I'm sure that makes me a "horrible person" for thinking that, though.

Yeah, it's true... The 'fan-club' thing is an insane ego-trip idea, and that is why I turned it off. Either my thoughts stand or they don't.

If I ever find myself collecting 'justification' for my thoughts from a bunch of hangers-on, please feel free to sledgehammer my head into a puree.

I never go to myspace because most of the pages there look absolutely ghastly with clashing colours, bad layout and no thought to design or content - it's like reading psychedelic rants.

I wouldn't know, I do not have a myspace account. I have two friends that I have added on Y!A and I added them because they ask compelling questions and give answers to questions that I also would like to answer. Saves me the time, rather then looking for questions, my flock of contacts finds them for me.

The two people on my contact list are actual "real life" friends that I speak to on a regular basis. They are the only reason I have the "add contacts" option enabled.

On the flipside, I've had several people add me to their contact lists whom I don't know, and have never communicated with. That, I find creepy.

Who cares about myspace

I do think that is what they are aiming at, only that their editorial staff is not yet quite as restrictive as are Myspace censors...(with Y/A someone still has to report you...)

I add people Not to make friends with them, but because I like their Q&A, that's all. This is an interesting forum for most of us, it isn't kindergarten.

Ok, but I've never even looked at MySpace.

What does that say about you?
