Lucky for you and me, a scandal like Pat Tillman's can still be uncovered. It shows, that our system works, despite the efforts of the Bush/Cheney regime. I am not worried about America, as long as I can read another Government scandal being uncovered. Our leaders in the Military and in the Government are corrupt to the bone, but so are our industrial leaders, unions and anybody who comes to power, its a human trade. As long as we have a functioning democracy, we are good. I just worry, that the next time a Bush regime comes along, the religious/military nuts, who got him into power, could get out of control.

Afford this war? We had a "paper loss" of over $1 Trillion shortly after 9-11 with 3100 deaths. We have spent $500B with 3500 deaths, but instead of constantly worrying about the person sitting next to you in the Metro - we have taken it the fight to their backyard. Better there than here
Now put your thinking cap (if you can find it). Here is a "famous" person who made the headlines and joined the Rangers. Great for Public Relations - now would you want to tip over the honey bucket and say friendly fire or heroically attacking an enemy position on the press release?
Friendly fire is always a risk especially at night (since its obvious you haven't had any military experience at all).
At least there was an investigation - big step up from Viet Nam on friendly fire incidents. People are being held liable. Yes the Army was wrong - but it corrected itself and people are going to be punished.
But no one has heard from the team sergeant or the members on what really happened - just negative reports from the press.
Grow up, get out of your parents basement and be thankful that the system still works and brave young men and women are willing to put a higher good ahead of themselves rather than their own personal goals.

Its pinheaded kaka for brains morons like you that are bringing this country down. TIllman got the Silver star because he earned it and died in the process. The USA is not weak in spirit its cowards like you that feel there is nothing that is worth war.
John Stuart Mill said it best....
War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things. The deecayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling that nothing is worth war is much worse. He who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
"Nuff said!!

Well, if you can stop spewing stupidity for a second you might want to engage what little bit of brain the drugs have left for you.
Tillman died. He died due to friendly fire. It was a screw up. It was a tragic screw up, but it was a screw up none the less and these things happen in combat.
What you might want to consider is this.
Nobody likes to get told "Your son died for nothing. It was an accident. His life was sacrificed on the altar of human error, just as much as if he had been hit by a drunk driver or had eaten tainted peanut butter. Sorry, but life is hard and then you die."
Families tend to prefer to get letters like "Your son died heroicly, selflessly giving his life to save a family of non-combatants who were caught in the crossfire. Greather love hath no man than he that lays down his life for a friend."
( Not that these things don't really happen, there are countless examples of soldiers doing incredibly heroic things to save others... just Google up some Congressional Medal of Honor Citations.)
But, when someone dies, occasionally some of the regulations aren't followed. For example, when a dead soldier's personal effects are shipped home things like PENTHOUSE and PLAYBOY and other things Mom might not want to see sometimes get lost along the way.
If a soldier is married, and his personal effects contain intimate letters from a woman not his wife, well they might get lost too.
This isn't done to cover up anything or to make the Army look good. It's done out of a spirit of mercy and compassion for the family. Can you imagine the pain it would cause a grief stricken widow to open up her husbands things and find a letter saying "Dear Sugarbuns, you were FANTASTIC last night... when are you going to dump that shrew of a wife?" How would a mom who was a hardcore Catholic or Baptist feel if she opened her son's personal effects and found condoms and porn? She'd have nightmares about her son being in Hell, that is how she would feel. Do you want someone's kids being told "Daddy's plane went down because he was trying to save some people who were under attack, and he was very, very brave?" or "Daddy's plane went down because he made a stupid navigational error on the way back from a mission, and by the time he realized it his fuel was too low to get back to the carrier and he ditched at sea and drowned and the fish ate him."?
So Pat Tillman died due to an accidental friendly fire. It is a tragedy and a gork up and I am sorry for his family. There is however, nothing that can be done to bring him back. Some people tried to create a better story for the family, so that they would feel a little better in their time of loss, and to give Pat a better legacy. They wanted their buddy Pat to be remembered for the hero he is and was, rather than to see him and his memory used by shameless people he didn't agree with (like you) to attack everything he loved, believed in and supported. (Like you are doing here.)
Yes, technically they shouldn't have done this, but they did.
I, personally, can't fault them for it.

Maybe you should try reading the Army's report instead of looking for dirt and mud to sling around...the latest report clearly states that nine officers, including four general officers, failed to follow Army regulations in the reporting of facts concerning the death and lays blame squarely at their feet. It also details how the sequence of events can give the impression of a cover up - which is proven true by your tirade - but also details how a cover up did NOT take place.
As for our "gold-plated military," you obviously have NEVER served a day in uniform. If you did, you'd know that our people in uniform are not paid nearly as much as they should be, and in fact the lower grades are so poorly paid that they qualify for food stamps and meal assistance programs in public schools. They sacrifice their personal lives every day by voluntarily serving in our Armed Forces to guard our nation and protect YOUR freedoms, and all you can do in return is use those personal freedoms to bad-mouth and insult them.
In my humble opinion, you're an ingrate. You're slime, something that you scrape off the bottom of your shoe after you've stepped in it.
Please feel free to exercise your rights and freedoms by leaving our country if you don't like it.
