Its a rye-based biscuit, popular particularly in Scandinavia. If you can't find Ryvita, try looking for one called FinnCrisp, which is thinner, but may do for whatever it is you're making.
These types of biscuit are quite hard, about 6 inches by 2 inches, and dark brown.

Rye Vita is made out of Rye Wheat. Vita comes from the celtic word meaning "cardboard"

In Australia rye vita is a cracker made from rye yummy with butter and vegemite

Vita and Wasa(a similar brand)are dry cardboard like crackers high in fiber. They're a staple in my annual "Bikini" diet.
