The math in the riddle is misleading - the math is backwards. Each man pays $10: 10 x 3 = $30. The manager gives $5 back: $30 - $5 = $25. The bell hop gives each man $1: $25 + $1 + $1 + $1 = $28. The bell hop kept $2: $28 + $2 = $30. There is no missing dollar.

There is no money missing! The guys paid $10. 10x3=$30. 30-5=25. The host had $2. 25+2=27. Each guy had 3 more dollars. 27+3= $30.

25$ a night-> 25/3=8.33 to each of the guys. and since the host kept only 2,the 1$ stays to the 3 guys. 1/3=0.33 each

OK
When you are counting "9+9+9" you are counting every thing had been payed, means "27" is "25" for the room and "2" for that man.
and it is wrong to calculate "9+9+9 = 27" with "2" because it is already included.
sorry for my bad English

Can you find a riddle that's a few generations newer. The $30 room should be your first indicator how old it is.
