The answers provided have been on target. CNC machines are faster and increase production. Their primary advantage over older, manually operated machines is REPEATABILITY.

There are fantastic manual machines produced today that have the potential to be more accurate than a CNC machine (in limited cases). However, not even these top of the line machines can give the repeatability of a CNC machine.

We don't use these machines for laughs. Businesses and people's livelihoods are based on their output. In the end CNC machines are more productive and cost less than manual machines.

They're better for the company that owns it since they are faster and increase output. You only need one skilled person to set several machines, then you can drag some unskilled bloke off the street to press a button.

There isn't a lot of operator satisfaction and if I had the choice of using CNC or manual machines I'd use manual machines every time.

I started off using manual machines and progressed to NC then CNC machines. I work in the office now but still miss it sometimes.

Once programmed, they need relatively little manual attention (even tool changes are automated in better models) and very complicated machining operations can be first simulated before the job is loaded on the machine. Rejects are practically zero (unless the actual material has varying properties compared to the model and tools are substandard etc.), once the prototype is accepted.

cnc uses a computer to plot out positions on an object and can repeat the same process exactly the same every time which makes them the best choice for manufacturing but the same quality can be achived with an nc mill or a standard vertical mill it will just take more time

It depends on the application.
In general they do a multitask job and have built in tools. More than that they function in more than one axis and do accept programing.
Again depending on the application they may reduce cost by replacing mutlti machines or multi work stations. Plus their efficiency is higher.

better than what? They are only any good if set up and programmed well, as my lecturer used to say shyte in shyte out!

They don't need a tea break & don't get bored. They also don't go on strike when you curse at them for getting it wrong!!
