I am not sure that there is any official designation as "moderately disabled", but there is a moderate level of retardation. To be diagnosed with moderate retardation is to score an IQ between 40 and the low 50's.

I would believe that it would mean that someone is somewhat disabled. Not severely disabled but enough that it causes lifestyle changes such as not being able to lift things like one could do before, or having to walk with a cane, or walk only short distances when before that was not a problem.

Its based on the ability to carry out specific tasks, eg if a person can walk only a few steps they are classified as having a serious disability, but if they can walk more than a few steps but less than 200m they are classed as moderately disabled.

I believe it is a person who is disabled, but, not to the point where they are severely disabled and and thus, confined to a bed or wheel-chair. They are still able to take care of themselves, and can live on their own. For more information google "Glasgow Outcome Scale".

im in a wheelchair, and moderately disabled infers that you can do somethings, but not others... i can drive my volvo, but i cant walk... i can do almost anything which doesnt require legs! (amputation as opposed to paralysed)

unlike a quadraplegic, who is totally paralysed from the neck down, or a paraplegic who is paralysed from the waist down... although many paraplegics lead "normal" lives.

being disabled doesnt mean youre retarded. my IQ is 136...
