I read that getting from 10 - 30 minutes a day of sun is good for you since your body produces more vitamin D.

However I have been cautious about any kind of skin exposure because of the UV rays and cancer.

So really how much sun is ok? I know it may depend of skin type and other factors.

Has it been proven that skin cancer develops from some exposure like this?

Sun is good for you. It not only helps you produce vitamin D, it also helps curb depression. People worry too much. Everything in moderation! By the way, I've been a sunbather and an outdoor person all my life. I am 40 years old and have lived in Texas(Hot & sunny almost year round) all this time. I am cancer free and believe me I DON'T look like a saddlebag! I think lighter skinned folks should wear sunscreen though. You have to be smart; don't just go out there and cook yourself! MODERATION!

Of course it can. After all the sun is a huge unsheilded fusion reactor. Dark tans yr after yr are great for looking like a prune in your 40s.

10 to 30 minutes a day should be fine. While a little caution is good, don't let the people who cry wolf at the teeniest bit of sunshine ruin your ability to enjoy it.

Stay outta the Sun as much as you can unless you want to experience premature aging.

Need vitamin D? Drink a glass of milk.
