Get an expandable cordless phone. One cordless phone base can have 4 or 5 handsets now, so you can still have phones all over your house, even with only 1 phone outlet.

bmwdrive is correct, some phones come with 3 or 4 handsets. Some phones you can add up to 8 or9 at about $40 each. Don't forget you can put in your phone outlet a connection where 2 phones can be conected to same outlet.

Go to where the main line comes into the house. Open the bottom half of the box on the wall, the top half of the box is for the telephone company. Inside the box there should be two lines, unplug one line and test it with a phone, then do the other line. This will tell you if the line has a problem inside or outside the house.

your outlets are wired in series - one followed by two by three etc. I assume after your first phone and the second one there is a break in the connection - Normally you use two of the four wires in the wiring of the phone. perhaps on the continuation you switched the wrong wires in series
