Exegesis is the science whereby scholars determine the correct interpretation of the text. The Bible is unique, for it is the word of God coming to us in the words of men. Therefore, biblical exegesis demands that we find out what both the human author and the Holy Spirit are trying to say.
The scholarship of the early church fathers was matched only by their holiness. Hence they speak to us with authority even today. They are also unique in that they are the link between the apostles and us.
This does not belittle the work of scholars and exegetes today. To accomplish their task they have to be fluent in the biblical languages and in the history and geography of the ancient Near East. They must muster archeology, paleontology, anthropology, oriental psychology and many other specialized sciences.
Over and above these sciences, the Christian exegete must take account of the fact that the Bible was given to us, in both its Testaments, by a living tradition. The literature side of it can be studied with the tools of literary analysis, but only the believers who passed it on to us can interpret the revelatory aspect. That means that the Jewish community today is the authority today on the Old Testament as the Hebrew Scriptures. The Catholic Church is the final authority on the New Testament. It is also an authority on the Old Testament since the Christian community inherited the Hebrew Scriptures and therefore has the right to interpret them according to the light of Christ. Also the earliest Christians were Jews, and the learned among them, like Paul, could interpret the Jewish Scriptures authoritatively.
Peace and every blessing!

The Word of God is the SAME yesterday, today, and tomorrow. It is NOT surprising, but when you open some peoples eyes, (spiritually) their feeling get hurt, and instead of learning, they want to cuss you out, call you all kind of names, and this is my Favorite, put you on report in YA because the Truth hurts them. They are without knowledge Edifying God and His teaching by doing so. They can do nothing to me, BUT God now is a different subject. They are happy with their cushioned lifestyle, and are afraid that they will have to change what they are doing. However Spiritual Ignorance IS NO EXCUSE once the Truth has been made known. God at one time winked at this ignorance, but NOW with what His Son, Christ has done for us, there is nothing that anyone can use for an excuse anymore as EVERYONE in the USA especially has access to Gods Word if they would only take time to read it with understanding. Ignorance in the Pulpit today is shameful, and a lot of people are being led straight to Hell by these so called Super Preachers who DO NOT KNOW the Word of God themself. "Judgment begins at the House of the Lord" (paraphrased for simplicity)

The Bible is true, inherently so. There has been mistranslations over the years, but they are usually minor. Our understanding of the ancient languages has improved, and our understanding has improved also. Example, the 4th commandment "thou shall not kill" should be thou shall not commit murder. The translation of Jonah being swallowed by a whale, should have been a great fish, or monster fish. The parting of the Red Sea, may actually have been the Reed Sea. Because humans have mistranslated words or misinterpreted the meaning does not make the Bible wrong, it makes the human mistaken.

The options don't quite cover my POV. The Bible has been translated MANY times and always with the translator's morals and opinions on what it SHOULD say. In it's current form it is a mixture of B - some translation needed; C - a guideline on how to live (with your own interpretation, not someone else's) and also elements of D - where the translations are totally wrong.

A. Taken literally, every word. It is not open to interpretation.
B. Seen as mostly true, some interpretation is needed.
C. Thought of as a basic guidline for how to live. Take what you need and forget the rest.
D. Viewed as a work of fiction. Nothing more.
I would say that none of your selections is appropriate. I think that the Bible should be taken as in part literal, and in part figurative, with all of it being "true" and most of it being "open to interpretation."
Look - literal does not mean "true." Non-literal does not mean "false." Literal does not mean "not open to interpretation." Non-literal does not mean "open to interpretation." Literal means "in accordance with, involving, or being the primary or strict meaning of the word or words; not figurative or metaphorical." Literal statements may be true, or they may be false. Similarly, non-literal (figurative) statements may also be true or false. And both literal and non-literal statements may be open to interpretation.
Each denomination in Christianity has its own interpretation. Baptists typically follow a Calvinist approach to the Bible, finding predestination and the idea only a small number of "elect" will find salvation. Methodists on the other hand find free will, rather than predestination and a wider opportunity for salvation. Catholics interpret the bible to require faith and good works to achieve salvation, and they in fact have 5 more books in the Bible than Protestants.
So, like it or not, the Bible is open to interpretation, and parts of the Bible (e.g. the Song of Solomon, Proverbs, the parables, etc.) are all figurative in nature. But that doesn't make it "not true." That makes it something to be thought about.
And, remember, it isn't written anywhere that you have to have a correct understanding of the Bible in order to be saved. It doesn't say anywhere that one has to correctly understand the Genesis account in order to be saved. One can be way off base in one's reading comprehension and still be a Christian.

about the bible:
It should be viewed as a work of fiction. Nothing more.
and their ignorant humans that believe that the bible is the word of God. Now that's pathetic!
Here's how anyone can OVERCOME the lies and deceptions in the bible and religion:
Create a private, personal, direct, divine Relationship with Our Creator and save your Soul from religion.
Only with Our Creator's Love and Peace will we be Truly Free!
Without God, there is No Love; Without religion, there are No Wars!
"religion is Spiritual fraud"; "religion is the Worse invention of humanity" - Jesus Christ, Buddha and any one else with Spiritual intelligence.

Other. The Bible in its original autographis is the Word of God. It has been translated many times and every word in it cannot be understood to be the perfect translation of the original. With that in mind, it is the Word of God. In the computer age, it is incredibly easy to research original Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek words.
Other than that, you need to read parables for what they are. The word 'tree', for example, may represent something else in the parable.

A: There are over 1000 different translations of the Bible so no every word can not be taken literally as they all have the same words translated different. The King James version seems to be the most correct translated out of them all. It was compared to everything known at the time and rechecked over and over but it is also missing some things and some things may not be 100% translated correctly also they prayed mightily for a most correct version and i believe they prayed in Faith and I believe in what Jesus Christ said "Whatsoever ye ask in Faith, believing ye shall receive. it shall be done."So i Stick to it till something better comes along or we find a original copy buried in a hillside somewhere. The bible is very much open to interpretation..Ye must pray alot and not faint in the name of Christ to know what ye should do..The Bible is just a History meant to lead you to God not to be God.In the epistle of James it says "If any of ye lack wisdom let them ask of God, who giveth Liberally to all them that asketh.." Do that.. also it says "Ye must obtain from God that knowledge that man can not give nor can he take away."
B: It is for the most part True if ye have the Holy Spirit it shall take the true parts and ye shall forget the foolish"incorrect translations parts." regardless of which version you have but ye should still strive to have the most correct info." no Interpretation is needed more then God is willing to Give you he wants you to understand him if ye would just ask with a sincere heart and real intent and a desire to forsake your iniquity's for with God there is no Evil and cannot be with those who shall seek after him. We must drive from ourselves our useless cares and focus on what truly is.
C. Again The Bible is a History Book to help one better understand their state and standing. God has by no means quit talking many have just quit listening. The commandments the Bible teaches the principles are not there to control one they are rather a path to happiness.. the commandments are what one should do to have Peace and Prosperity in this life and eternal life in the world to come.Guaranteed.. God is no better of or less of whether we choose to keep them or not to..It is us who are.\
D. I'm not even going to go there..All I can say Is pray with real intent in the name of Christ. Obviously you are unsure and need something more therefore to thine knees is all I can say..Heavenly Father Loves you there is a plan of happiness prepared specifically for you. If you want. The choice is yours but you do not need to be unsure of anything..PRAY...pray ..pray it is written "Ye may know the Truth of all things by the Power if the Holy Spirit." Truth is reason and Truth is Eternal

E. Other
If you take the Bible's meaning word for word, its sense gets altered. However, every word in the Bible, I believe, is Truth.
