on a scale of 1 to 10 1 being not united and 10 being fully united i'd have to give America meaning the USA about a 3 which may be higher or lower depending on the fact that national voting is not compulsory if it were and the USA was still in the same position politically then i'd give it a 4
as could be said for most western nations
although this is not a bad thing because it represent's the one thing that most western or democratic societies are in place for and that is that everyone can be different and can voice there opinion's whenever they won't without fear of reprisal's ie (death) but within the world as far as unity of thinking goes america would probably be close to the bottom and countries like iraq iran syria palestine they would probably be more unified in there way of thought

so although the ideal's of america is all about unity, the main unity that it has is the unity to be able to speak and also to be heard

I would say maybe a 4- 4+ at best....911 brought a great unity, until the Media severed it with slanted war reporting...Then the Liberals kicked in trying to take the lead for 2008, by bashing everything Republican....
If the Media and Libs were out of the picture, I would increase the rating to a 9

When 911 happened, we were truly a "united"
people. After the war wasn't going as good as
people wanted it to, we quickly became un-united.
I believe the Media and Liberals are the ones who
have caused this riff between the peoples. We
could have had some disagreements, but it has
turned ugly with name-calling, put down of our
own government and it's leaders.
so, I say we're at 3 on the scale and that's not
good. We need to build bridges to re-unify US.

I think we as Americans are united in the fact that we are all different along with our veiws on such things that you have posted. If we all agreed on everything what a boring place we would live in. Not to mention the system of checks and balances would no longer be needed since everyone wuld agree with everyone else. This would be very a very troubling thing as it could lead to a possible overthrow of a society based on democracy.
