I believe the theory that says people subconciously look for patterns, so remember it when they look at 11:11, but discard the knowledge if it's another time.

I think this happens because a lot of people look at the clock at 11 minutes past 11. After all it happens twice a day, everyday if you are using the 12 hour clock and there are an awful lot of people in the world with digital clocks. It doesn't happen so much to me because my watch is analogue.

The law of averages says that it will be 11:11, 7:7, 6:6 etc sometime in our livetime whenever we look at the time. Nothing magical!

Oh my god yes! This was happening to my colleague and she passed it on to me. I don't know if your waiting for 11:11 and then looking at the clock (subconsciously). I haven't heard any theories about it but it is strange. Also my boss has e-mailed me twice in the past 2 days at 11:11 (she isn't aware of it).

It's called Remembrance Day syndrome (Veteran's Day in the US, I think).
It's the combined wills of the dead from the War to end all Wars acting upon the unconscious psyche.

You need to show that, statistically, people look more at that time than any other.

We often look without "seeing", it is only something odd (like a matching pair of numbers) that makes us "see"

It's really not common to do it. It just seems that way because you remember it. You are looking for meaning where there is none.

This is very similar to people seeing "miracles." When in fact they are just seeing a statical anomaly.

I'm not sure on that one, but I HAVE to look at a clock to see it get to 12:34. I don't know why I do, i just do.
