On the train this morning a woman walked to the centre of the isle and stood with her back to the woman sitting down few rows up from me. The sitting lady was 'squirming' at this but said nothing. It got me thinking, would I be that unaware of people around me or, if I were sitting would I say something to the person standing with their back to me?

A lot of people aren't aware of what's going on around them, lots of time people wearing backpacks also turn and literally hit me in the face with it because they just don't realise they're carrying it. But no, one of the reasons I think this is so rude is 'cause I am aware of my surroundings, it's very very rare for me to step back or something and be caught by surprise that either a person or object is there.... I wouldn't stand right there unless the train is so packed we're in there like sardines in a can. And on those occasions I have felt glad I was standing, 'cause the people who're seated are indeed right on the level of everyone's butt... they might have a seat but not much of a view, lol!

No I would not do that If I could help it. IF there was hardly standing room then thats too bad, that lady should just deal with it. If shes got that much of a problem with typical things like that from riding public transportation then she should find a different way around town.

some people are just unaware of what they do or say in public and only think of them selfs .. if it was me id prolly told her to get her a@@ out of my face but then agian you also have to think some people are affraid to stand up to others and that woman standing with her backside in someones face probably didnt think or care that there was someone there some people are very self centered in alot of ways and if you really watch you would notice it alot more than just that one woman

On a train you stand where you want or wherever there is room.

I'm not sure trains and subways have any rules of etiquette.

Some trains are just so crowded you don't have a choice, I avoid public transport anyway - it's expensive, crowded and smelly!

I would try not to aim directly at the seated, but in crowded conditions, may not be something that can be helped.

sometimes it's unavoidable.
If it were a bloke I would ask him to move his ***.

If it was a girl I would say nothing and perv away!!
