Now I am thinking that my only option is to homeschool my son. Will those of you who are doing so please give me suggestions on getting starting? I figure he will have to finish the year at his current school and then start next year, 5th grade. He is gifted if that information helps.

there is many different types of home-schooling. you need to find which type will best fit with your son and with you.
I pulled my son out of school in the middle of the year to homeschool. allot of home-school programs suggest that once you pull the child from public school that they have a time of deprogramming from the public system some suggest 1month per each year they were in school.
we are just finishing up that phase before we start some structured schooling but we are going more on the "UN-SCHOOLING" plan where we work on what interest him or some call it child directive schooling. we still work on reading, writing and math, but incorporate it in to what interest him. weather it be helping to cook(reading, math, directions, cause and effect)
you can get the idea try researching different types of homeschooling first and they have different ways for you to figure out what type of learner your child is and which type might work best for him.

Go to the library and get a few books on homeschooling -- it is really hard and not for everyone. You have to be very disciplined and committed to make it work -- this is your child's education, remember. The books will help you with the basics. The library should also be able to hook you up with a local homeschool support group. Also, check with your school district. They should have information, also.

My daughter was home schooled but not in our home.

We sent her to a "school" that had very small classes (less than 6 children to a class) and taught each child individually.

It was very expensive but it was worth it. Look up alternative schools in your area on the Internet.
