Same reason there aren't many in top flight Motor racing, it's still seen by the Media and mainstream as a 'Man's Sport', so not many Women try.

In car racing at least they are trying to change that and are encouraging more Women to come to the sport, and it's getting better.

Another reason may be that even in normal Riding/Driving the majority of Women have a problem with spatial awareness and strength, and both of these are very important in Motorsports.

No female riders have shown themselves to be fast enough to consistently compete at GP levels against men - Now I am not saying that they can't do this, as they could be limited by opportunity and/or sponsorship etc at the moment to having all the opportunities open to them.

A number of women have competed in 125 and 250 GP classes, with no real success to date.

I do think there is a physical limitation for women to succeed against men at this level though - Riding a motorcycle fast is more than just sitting on it and going around corners - the top riders these days are superb athletes who train in strength and endurance to muscle those bikes around under huge forces ... and simply due to anatomy, men at peak fitness have more muscle mass than women for a given weight.

Perhaps a sponsor will take a gamble and put a woman on a motogp bike one day, but I think this would be more of a publicity exercise than a genuine attempt at success.

Because Elena is not old enough yet! Below is a quote from another discussion board with more links about her. Most everyone in roadracing has already heard of her and she is only 12 years old. The girl is whipping adults and going places fast. She has a factory Kawasaki sponsorship this year!

"Elena Meyers first female Moto GP champ?
There is a thread on BARF about this girl. Her dad runs the mini motorcycle racing (YSR50's) in Stockton, CA and has been helping her along with her racing there and now trying to help her with the full sized bikes. She has only been to Thunderhill raceway a handful of times and because she is 12 YEARS OLD, the AFM will not allow her to race with the adults. Recently she turned a lap time a full second faster on her RS125 than the AFM race winner in that race class during a Thunderhill track day. This girl is going places. Totally amazing. There are a couple good digs on our fellow .ORG'r Trackho too. All in good fun of course."

Female riders are getting more competitive every year, however, most will run up against a physical wall.

Women currently can't be as physically strong or have stamina like male athletes.

Because of this, sports that require speed and stamina aren't great proving grounds for co-ed competition. This includes motorcycle racing.

Car racing does require stamina, but to a lesser extent. Because of this, some women have been able to compete and win.

Drag racing is reflexes and guts. Women can and are good at this!

However, if you're not racing competitively by the time you're a teenager, then you've probably missed the boat to get to professional levels anyway. That's not to say you can't compete on a local level!
