Lost licence and applied to DVLA for duplicate.
They have no record of my licence even though I still possess old version (little red book) and will only issue me with provisional. Does this mean I need sit another driving test?I can remember Cilla Black having the same problem and they issued her with a full licence.

I would in the first instance get in touch with the CAB and or a local solicitor. the reason for this action is simple. if you are stopped by the police or involved in an accident and there is no record of you having a licence with the DVLA the police may arrest you. besides which the implications on your insurance would cause no end of problems. get your solicitor to copy and sign the copy so it is a legal document which can be produced as evidence. then take it up with the DVLA and we all hope they will be obliging and issue a new one. best of luck

Am I right in thinking that many years ago you got a driving licence without having to pass a driving test? I presume you have passed. What it does mean is that you have to have 'L' plates and a qualified passenger with you and your insurance may be invalid.... Its better to be safe than sorry if you had an accident. Many people pass their test and assume they have a full licence when all they had was a provisional licence and a pass slip which is not the same thing.

When I worked for the Driving Standards Agency, this used to happen all the time when you had to apply for a new style licence. If you have the evidence to support the fact that you have a licence, it shouldn't be too much of a problem to get it sorted. Good luck with it!

the DVLA had a massive computer mess up some time back and it wiped a lot of peoples records, i do remember seeing that if you've had to produce your licence to the police and they can verify that and you can produce your old licence the DVLA will accept that and issue you your licence, get in touch and tell them you know there has been a computer mess up, it was on the BBC watchdog program last year !!.

Send them a copy of your old version one.
My sister in law never got around to sending off her provisional licence after taking and passing her test. She had to re-sit her driving exam.

I agree with Richard, there was a ginormous computer ****-up a while ago. Contact DVLA, tell 'em you have the red book proving your entitlement and ask them what they're going to do about it. If they ask you to send your book in, make sure you keep photocopies of every bit of it, and use registered mail.

Youd need to send them your old license but its odd that they have no record.

Otherwise yes you will have to sit the theory test and driving tests again. Plus if you have been driving for years you'd need to get a few lessons to iron out all your bad habits, so it'll cost you a small fortune unless they sort it out

I'd send the old one in to them with a covering letter. Make sure you keep copies of it too.
