I often wonder how much parents monitor their kids use of the internet.

I would guess the age range at round preteen up to well into old age.
Some parents do not monitor at all, it seems. However, this is intended to be a place for mature people. Thus, I say the fault lies completely with parents, not those who post or respond to questions.

I don't know about you, but when I was school age, my contemporaries used very bad language, and the jokes were not simply risque, they were downright rude. If I were to post some of them I would receive a violation in double quick time. When was the last time you overheard kids talking, that didn't know you could hear them?
Oh the age and parents part. Age I would say varies from teenage to perhaps 80+. Depends on what a persons interests are. Probably most are between 20 & 60.
Parental monitoring, not much. Parents usually know if they can trust their kids. Almost all parents do some, some. Some overdo it, some don't do any, but most are in between, stepping up the monitoring if they think they need to.

Which question do you want answered? the age range, the youngest ones I know of are preteens the oldest person I know for sure the age of is nearly 73 so that's pretty broad. How much people monitor their kids. Well I didn't keep any secrets from mine, if they wanted to know about or discuss sex then we did, it shouldn't be taboo. They won't ask until they are ready to hear the answer. If children can't get that sort of support from their parents then perhaps they need a forum like this to answer questions they can't ask at home.

Reading the number of unintelligible questions on Q&A let alone the answers, I would hate to think that they were written by adults. So I assume there are teens and tweenys on line.

My only experience however is one little tyke wanting us to do his homework for him. Frankly your "average" 13 year old knows very little of use (unless you want a cheat for Grand Theft Auto or your video player reprogrammed). Not even enough to ask an intelligent question to find out more.

There are a lot nastier things for teenagers to find on the internet than Yahoo Q&A where a f*rt joke or an off colour or unPC remark can get you busted. However perhaps people should remember that that off the wrist, smart-ar*e remark might just be considered a deadly insult by a forteen year old with the self esteem of lichen.

well i think the age range is from about nine to seventies! with most people being teenage to twenties, and a good number being middle aged. I will be nineteen myself next may...

and i doubt there are parents monitoring the kids and which questions they can answer....i think YA! was intended for adults.

I think it's quite wide, during the day and late evening it seems it's mainly adults but late afternoon and early evening I think kids try to research homework, There should be a way of verifying your age so the content is more aimed at your age range.

good point, although some questions I would have loved to have heard when I was younger, it would have made me think a lot more at a bigger picture. However some Q's and A's are too adult for kids in my opinion, I'd say it should exist for kids as well it could not be worse then a playground at lunch time even if it was ten times worse.

I've answered some questions from people who claim to be 10, and some from people who claim to be 60. The guidelines say that the minimum age is 13, but I think there is a parental guidance clause.

I'm thirteen, and I've been through the good, bad, and ugly at Yahoo Answers. Then again, I'm not like most 13 year olds.

I think it really depends on your level of maturity. There can be someone who's in the thirties and still act completely ignorant. Or a young genius. So really, it's wrong to generalize.
