I have a female boxer that is about 8 months old. Is it possible that I could have missed her first heat? Or would it have been obvious?

You could have missed it if she would not have heavy flow as she may lick her genital area.Dog in heat about two weeks, some of the dog bleed more, some less.If your dog bleed less, you may missed it.When dog in heat, her genital area becomes red and swollen.1st heat of small breed dog comes when she is about seven or eight month , large breed at about one-year-old.Small breed twice a year, large breed once a year or two years three times.

My Weimaraner was right at 8-1/2 months old when she had her first heat cycle and trust me you CANNOT miss it. There are 3 phases to the heat cycle and the whole thing lasts about 3 weeks. There will be no doubt in you mind when she goes into heat. But it's still best to spay her rather than having a litter of puppies - leave that to the professionals.

She might have had a silent heat. A "silent heat" is a female in estrus but is not showing any bleeding or swelling. This is can be the result of hormonal changes, especially if she has been regular up to this point. She also might not have matured yet my maltipoo didn't go into heat until a year and 2 months (the vet thinks she had a silent heat) Lady my cocker didn't go into heat until she was 10 months. Don't worry about it she will go into heat soon, Dogs go into heat every 6-7 months after they have there first heat cycle so if she had a silent heat you might not see one for awhile. Remember dogs shouldn't be bred until they reach 2 years old or it can lead to future problems such as arthritis

I always advise to spay and neuter. If you are not going to breed - and breed responsibly - then please get your female spayed.

8 months is fairly young to be worried about missing a heat. Some will not come in for the first time until 2 years old - You should enjoy your dog anyway! She is just a puppy and far too young to be bred. Two years old minimum for proper health clearances!

8 months is still a little young to come in heat. Normally I tell people to look for heat between 10 and 14 months of age for the first time.

She might not have started going into heat yet. I don't think it can be missed. Even with a small dog, it's quite messy. Now is the time to get her spayed.

dogs seasons are like womens periods in that they very in length and time. Some will happen early, some late, some heavy, some liight, some painful, some night. If you get worried go and chat to your vet, they are the best person to tell you!

They don't come into heat that fast. It would have obvious signs..you may notice spotting (a little watery blood) in spots-a change in behavior-etc. they generally will reach a stage of heat between a yr. and ayr. and a half.
