Just an observation: The frequency with which people who ask questions about atheists use the singular form of the verb is rather interesting. It suggests that these people imagine a monolithic, singular, Borg-like atheist mind. Fascinating.

Atheists believe that there is no God. Some atheists believe that there is a spiritual component of human life which might be interpreted as a "soul," though without knowing what your definition of "soul" is, I cannot be certain.

No, because they're too stupid. first, if something is not prooved to exist that doesnt mean it doesnt exist. The development of science is the best answer. Take, lets say the existence of subatomar structures. Many yrs ago, people believed atom has a positive and negative part. But today we know we have not only two(+ and -) but 300 elementar particles. What tells us that?

If you dont know soemthing that doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

The Bible really doesn't define soul or spirit which are basically interchangable terms. I don't think that our essence or what makes us, us is separate from our physical being. So basically, no soul.

depends on the atheist.

I don't believe in souls, because I have yet to find a place where they fit into evolution.

Hey, it had to start somewhere too.

For the current time, I only believe that this "soul" is parallel to electrical signals in the brain.

But hey, I'm open-minded about it.

Some of us do, and I happen to be one of them. I also believe in an afterlife, but not the traditional "Heaven and Hell."

I believe that we continue on after death as spirit energy, although I have no idea as to where we might go, or what we might do.

Not the way I think you mean it. I think our souls are our minds, and that when we die, so do our souls.

I don't have an "immortal" soul. I have a consciousness. This consciousness or mind is strongly dependent on my physical body (I can experience that for example when I get tired or when I drink alcohol), and I have no reason to assume that any part of my mind is non-physical.

They cannot prove the existence of a soul, so how can they believe in it?

No. Atheists simply don't believe in anything supernatural. So they don't believe in:
-God
-Angels
-Miracles
-Soul
-Hell & heaven
-Ghosts
-Magic
And many other things..
