An autopsy should be performed by a medical examiner. It is done by making a Y shaped incision. It goes along the mid-line of the body then going up and outwards near the top of the chest. The ribs are sawed, and spread opened. The internal organs are removed, examined, weighed, tissue samples are taken, and any findings are noted. The brain may also be examined by making an incision within the hair, pulling the scalp down over the face, and opening the skull with a saw. In cases where choking is involved, the neck may be opened so the bones and ligature of the trachea can be seen. Legs and arms may also be opened if there are signs of trauma. The remaining organs are then returned to the body cavity and all incisions are closed. Samples of body fluids, and the contents of the stomach and intestines, are also taken and tested,

Autopsies are only perform with the consent of the family, with the exception of suspected fowl play. That usually means that any person who dies unexpectedly, or at an early age, will have one.
