Personally, we've always gone to the local humane society (pound). Even though our new puppy (from the pound) is a mix we saw plenty of pure breds there too. Giving a little guy a home from the pound is one of the most rewarding things you can do. There is so much talk and news about puppy mills nowadays that it's time to send these cruel people a message, stop buying from them and they'll soon close down!!

If you are looking for a just any old dog in general the pound is always a good idea as you will be saving a dogs life in the long run. Although if you want to be sure you are getting a thoroughbred then decide on a breed and do some research on breeders in your area or within the boardering states. Sometimes the best breeder will not be right next store alothough it is worth it if you hear good things about a particular breeder. Trust me they are not all nice people like any other occupation there are some duds out there.

Good Luck!

Rich

Depends on what type of dog you want. If you want an expensive pure breed dog, then I would suggest going to a reputable breeder, but if you just want a companion/pet, i would suggest giving a dog from a shelter a second chance at having a life.

personally, i would go to a shelter that euthanizes animals that way you can actually save a life. if not, the humane society center is always good as well.
