How many people here KNOW the difference between Satanism (i.e. LaVeyan) and Devil worship?
Just put it simply- no long explainations needed.

ok, so far, 3 out of 11 people know what I'm talking about......
well it's a start I guess.
And for anyone who thinks I'm just acting superior, eh, no. I am actually doing research on minority religions in modern society. Satanism being one that I'm concentrating on at the moment.
So insults are not needed people.
You know who you are.

Devil worship is more narrow term for Theistic Satanism. Devil worship means that person worship entity which is in particular culture taken as devil. In west culture it will be worship of Satan. Satan in such approach is understood mostly (but not always) more like Christian Satan and not every pre-Christian deity which have similarity with Satan or have adversary function. In common sense it's theistic worship of Satan. Note that most people take incorrectly Satanism for Modern Satanism or so called LaVeyan Satanism in which Satan is merely a symbol. There are real Satanists - Theistic Satanists, who worship Satan as a deity (as it's common understood) though it's still very broad therm and impossible to explain in a clear way. It's not a question which can be simple answered. For more details see my other answers.

I'm into using shorty and sweet answers. so
"How many people here KNOW the difference between Satanism (i.e. LaVeyan) and Devil worship?"
LaVey Satanism is a concept of self power, they treat Satan as a way to extract their own power...blah blah blah Advancement of self humanity....
Other Satanism basically ranges from, flipped side of Christianity to a advanced practice, that is over the head of most Christians...
Devil worshiping on the other hand are people who practice only for 1. Shock value 2. moral devastation... and do not have a real religion to follow, this is where the concept of human sacrifice comes in.. not in proper Satanism.

Wow....that's all I can say
LaVey Satanism is a form of self-worship, using the metaphorical devil which resides in all of us not as a Deity, but more so as a goal of some sorts. The devil represents indulgence and living life to the fullest. Satanism is about self-fulfillment, not about worshiping the literal devil.
Luciferianism on the other hand does worship the literal biblical devil, commending him for his bravery, not condemning him for his revolt. There's not much more I know about it, sadly to say.
There is the difference between the two. And what have we learned from this little venture? Never ask a question about religion and expect a tolerant answer.

LaVey was more of a philosopher than a religionist. He felt people had a psychological need for religion, so why not worship the outcast: Satan. They don't actually believe in him, but have him as the focal point of their belief. In LaVeyanism, all people are their own gods.
Devil worship is something else entirely and it is doubtful if anyone (at least to the modern times) actually worshiped a devil.

I think so, Devil worship is exactly that...worshiping the devil. Satanism, which started out as the same thing, is more of a way of life centered around using free will to its fullest advantages and not being oppressed by the beliefs or rules that man has made up to control society.

Here we go... The Devil, Lucifer, Old Nick and Satan are all names for the same entity. If you were coming up with a religion, why on Earth call it Satanism if you did not want it be referred to as Devil worshiping?! You've made your bed so lie in it.
My comment was a general one, not aimed at anyone in particular. However, if you are doing a study Yahoo Answers is not the best place! How do you think that results are reliable. I know the difference, all I'm saying is that it is irrelevant as one is judged by the company one keeps. Satanism will always be associated with Devil worship because we all know that Satan and Devil are the same entity, just different names.

Which form?
Luceferian believes Lucifer was a good angel thrown down by a jealous god (like Prometheus)
I'm not sure but I think LaVeyan is closer to the lines of self worship, Do what you will period sort.
Another form believes that in the war between god and Lucifer god lost and so in worshiping him who is called the devil they actually worship the fallen god.
And "Devil worship" though it's practitioners give it another name I think. Is the literal worship of all that is evil.

A couple of months ago I read a little bit about Satanism, so I know the difference between them now. Before I thought it was the same thing.

It's really splitting hairs, since the two belief systems are similar. often confused and misinterpreted.
Simply put, a true Satanist believes in a pre-Christian pagan deity - unlike devil worship, which deifies the Christian version of the devil.

Yeah, don't forget the Luciferians. Though, as I understand it, they're a bit less common than the LaVeyans.
I've had several nice chats with a LaVeyan I used to know. Rather pleasant chap, all told.
