It could be appendicitis.(inflammation of the appendix) Is there localized tenderness? Make sure you see the Dr immediately. before it ruptures and cause abscess.or a more serious complications of peritonitis.
The pain in right lower abdomen could provoke many different disorders or diseases. Yes, one of most common diverticulitis symptoms is abdominal pain and cramp in region of lower left abdomen. If infection is the cause, fever, nausea, vomiting, chills, cramping, and constipation may occur as well. Other causes would be Crohn's Disease or Colitis.
Do you have any other symptoms except the abdominal pain?
Your main symptom, the pain in the right side of the abdomen, sounds more related to Appendicitis. It’s the inflammation of appendix. The pain usually begins near the navel and moves down and to the right. In later stages the pain becomes worse when moving, taking deep breaths, coughing, sneezing, and being touched, mostly in the right abdominal area.
So don’t use any meds before you get the right diagnosis.
I would suggest you to ask your gastroenterologist for advice ASAP!

I had the same problem about 4 years ago, they thought it was appendicitus, so they took me in for an UltraSound to see what it was and it turns out it was just pains....
They will subside in a little while, so until then I guess... just deal with it, I'm so sorry that it happened to you, it really does hurt alot, it happened when I was in Middle School and I had to get a pass from the doctor as an excuse to be late b/c I would have to crouch down and stop in the middle of the hall if the pains came back.
I still get them but not as much as I did, So.... afterwards they come back but only once in a great while, and only for a couple of seconds..
Sorry, hope that I helped though, If you have any more questions you can contact me at bsrh16@yahoo.com

I am glad that you are calling the dr. I had some pain like what you are descibing. I thought that it was a stomache virus that was possibly causing the pain. Well, within an hour of the pains starting the pains got so bad that it was causing me to drop to my knees. So I drove myself to the ER. Come to find out that I had gallstones which was causing inflammation of my pancreas. That was the reason that my pain was so bad. I had to wait a day or two in the hospital for the inflammation to go down before they could perform the surgery. So I think that it is a good idea that you are going to see your doc. Hope you get well soon.

The appendix is located in the lower right quadrant of the abdomen. Good chance it could be appendicitis. Otherwise you might have a blockage of the bowel causing the pain. There are many options here. Get it checked out asap.

could be wind (yes, it can be sharp stabbing pains!) or it might be more serious. Go to the Doctors, just to make sure.
