For example if you are a sikh or from any other religion/ belief is it necessary for the child(newborn) to be from the same religion.

I don't think a child should be introduced to *A* religion, but to religion as a whole. They should be provided with enough information to make their own decision, not threatened with going to hell virtually from the womb.

I have no problem with people who have sought their own truth, and concluded that a particular faith is the way for them. I do have a problem with the people who possess the mentality of, "God is real cuz my pappie told me so!".

Gee, Can u imagine, that the world one day ruled by a non-religion generation ?...what kind of hell would it be ?...

well, for the introduction to the same religion with their parents, i think it have some point, cuz if u have the same religion w/ your parents, they can guide u and explain a lot of things about your religion, it also prevent child to gain information from the wrong source (e.g : go to friends which just slightly understand, and u will get missinterpret the message of a religion)...that's all ^^

Every child needs love and moral instruction. They can find that in MOST religions.

In Christianity it is comforting to know that JESUS LOVES ME. They learn that very early. Also couples that teach in the childrens ministries usually do a lot of hugging and provide affirmation to their students., as well as teach them songs about the love of Jesus.

Jesus loves me this I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong,
They are week but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so.

Only during the age of reason (11-35) would this not be comforting.

John Doe is right, but finding parents like that are not easy in most neighborhoods, particularly in this day and age.
Parents are too occupied with building the dream they have for their family and for their kids. However when you say walk the walk, that is religious speak for being like Christ.

What a child should be exposed to is two parents living by example, "walking the walk," and loving one another. Religious education is nowhere near as significant a learning tool as observing people who live by their convictions.

some religions believe that if they don't "introduce" their religion to their babies their babies will go to hell and suffer for, or will be cast into limbo desolate and forgotten for eternity if they don't.
So it's a way to preserve their baby, and when the baby grows up if the family isn't too scary they can decide for themselves what their right path is.
It doesn't hurt anything if it isn't pushed too hard.

its very interesting though, i have a 6 year old who from a very early age had a interest in Jesus. even before he was old enuff to understand religion and God. and kids seem to have alot of belief in God, even though they have never seen him (they see Santa in the shopping centre, and on movies) so i think THEIR curiosity is there..and you should not turn around say 'God doesnt exist'simply becuase you dont believe in Him. i think give them a general knowledge of religion, about God and what ever your belief is- but allow them when they are old enuff to chose their own religion. in otherwards give them religous foundation....

The rules of religion are an excellent way to base your life on.
Whether you believe it or not.

I'm going to allow my daughter to come to her own conclusions, and I'll love and support her no matter what she chooses.
