I actually grew into that behavior.
I have been married once and had a live-together relationship with another woman. After my last break-up, I though I would soon be in another relationship. I began dating again but quickly began to realize that I wanted nothing to do with another relationship. But I still enjoy the chase and I still play -- often times with good intentions. Every time I begin a chase, it is with the feeling that the woman I'm chasing is great. Every time the chase comes to fruition, I quickly lose that feeling and begin heading for the exit ASAP.

Men like to chase because they like the element of mystery some women have. If you are aloof and 'hard to get' men love that. They think once they have 'caught' you, that it was all down to their skill and that they are good players. The shame of it is they never grow out of it, even some married men, with ten hundred kids. The best advice for girls being chased and who like the guy is to not make things too easy for him. Whilst a guy chasing you, does not imply anything more than infuation and ego, it is how you reel them in that counts. The love story goes; interest- attraction- infatuation-tenderness-then love.
So be sweet. Not stupid sweet, but helpful sweet. Whenever he asks you a question, dont play dumb and twiddle with your hair. This will make them smile inside and think 'I gotcha girl', instead answer them directly. Look them straight in the eye. This makes them feel uncertain and wary. They dont know you as well as they thought they did. Dont flirt, but give genuine helpful smiles. This then makes them think that you are not a easy person, but that you are genuinly nice and sensible.
Be sexy, but very casual about it. And sexiness is not just about the clothes, its also about the way you wear your hair, that scarf you chose to wear with your outfit. Sexy revealing clothes has no mystery and it says alot about your personality (and your lack of confidence). Be nice to the guy, dont turn him away and be strong yourself. And if he keeps coming back, more and more shy and afraid to talk to you, then girl you know you've got your man. Go for it!

Guys want to chase you because it's their nature. The problem is, once they catch you, they tend to get very lazy about keeping you! Some guys get bored once they have you, and go on the chase again for the entertainment of it.

Its not just men that do it!!! I must admit I'm a little bit guilty of doing it too--- i think its a case of wanting to prove you can get something even if its not some thing you really want!! I sopose it is kind of an ego boost really and some thing to do with having low self esteem!! x

Not really sure why guys like the thrill of the chase but I am guessing that if a girl is too easy well that's a huge turn off. Most grow out of it when they grow a set of balls but until then they hunt their prey like losers..sorry to be so blunt!!MEN!!
