My cat starts meowing at 7 a.m. everyday. I can't sleep and I will have to get rid of him if he doesn't stop. He's spayed and just started doing this. I have moved twice and he's become more vocal each time.
I started spraying him with water when he does it. Will this help?

It's a he and it was neutered. I am just tired, but you get the point. For those of us who get out of work at late hours, 7 a.m. is quite early. Don't be so presumptuous. And water worked for my fighting cats.

Some cats are vocal and some aren't, just like some people talk more than others.
There's really no way to MAKE a vocal cat stop being vocal.

You say that each time you moved it's gotten worse, your cat may simply just be stressed out.

According to my Vet spraying a cat with water is the WORST thing you can use to stop a bad behavior.
If you would happen to spray the cat in the face, over time that can cause an over abundance of yeast in the cats ears, eyes, or nose which would need to be treated by a Vet.
Also your cat will begin to associate the spray bottle with you rather than the bad behavior and that's going to cause you REAL behavior problems.

To train a cat to stop a bad behavior, clap your hands and say "NO" very loudly and firmly...or fill a can with pennies and shake it while saying no.

But, like I said above some cats a simply vocal and if that's the case you'll more than likely never be able to stop it.
We have four cats, three or about average on the "vocal scale" but the fourth one "Talks" all the time...I swear she "talks" in her sleep.

Please don't give up your cat for simply being a cat.

The question is, since its 'spayed', is it a male or female? And secondly, it may just be vocal. Though most of the time when a cat meows it wants something, I have a very vocal 14 year old snowshoe siamese mix. She's my baby, I've had her for so long. But I have to admit, if I didn't have so many years with her under my belt, she wouldn't be living with me now, partially for the issue you voiced. If it has siamese in its blood, its more prone to be talkative. Try keeping it at another end of the house with everything it needs, of course, and maybe then you won't be able to hear the meowing? But if it really is loud and disruptive, maybe its just asking for attention?

Sound like he is upset with the moves - you said he has become more vocal after each move. Perhaps he need time to settle in and a bit more attention as he feels unhappy.

When my Burmese yowls, I ask him what is wrong or just call his name. He then usually jumps up on my bed and settles down to sleep. He yowls to fnd out where I am.

Does he have food available, litter tray, his own space to settle and sleep in. Take some time to rry and find the cause of his 7am wake up call, Perhaps he thinks it is time for you to get up. After all that isnt that early

Some people love that in a cat and call him a "talker" I have 2 only 1 is a talker when kids r sleeping or I dont want any noise I pet him and he settles down and snuggles to sleep.

He's lonely, or hungry. Invite him into your bed and cuddle him while you're sleeping. Or get up feed him and go back to bed. You could also feed him at night

My cats used to start at 4am, then I started feeding them just before I went to bed. Now I'm up long before they can wake me up. Granted, I do get up early anyway (by 6) but it's no longer 4am I'll tell you that! lol

First you need to try to find out why he is meowing at that time every morning, there is a reason he does this. Cats don't like moves to new homes... Did he do this at the first place you brought him home to? If he didn't start until after you moved, then this might be one of the reasons. The fact that he does it every morning at the same time makes me think there is more to it than just needing to adjust to the new place. Another reason he might be doing this, is he may be hungry, change the time you feed him, do it before you go to bed and if he still starts his meowing at 7:00am, feed him at that time too. He will at least stop long enough to eat and If he is like my cats, they always take a long nap after eating, and if he does take a nap and stops the meowing after he eats then you know this was what he was trying to tell you, and your problem is solved. . My cats use to wake me up too, they would not just meow, one of my cats would jump on and off the bed and land right on my chest, bounce off the walls and if that didn't get me up, (I was stubborn) he would start jumping on and off the dresser and knock things off, sometimes breaking them, until I finally got up and fed them. That was all I had to do. It took me awhile to figure this out, because I'm not real brite in the morning that early. That's when I started feeding them before I went to bed, they would sleep in longer in the morning, I would prepare it the night before, so all I had to do is give it to them when they woke up hungry, now we are all happy. I use to feed them when I got home from work, if I didn't have time to feed them in the morning before I went to work. Sometimes I would also feed them at night if I couldn't remember if I had fed them at all. Sometimes I fed them once a day and sometimes twice a day, or 3 times.
The problem was me, not feeding them the same time everyday. The cats finally trained me to do this and taught me how important it is to feed them at the same time every day. I no longer have my cats waking me up early and doing bad things to me. So if you don't already feed your cat at the same time every day, try this, it just might be what he needs. If it isthen you can get the sleep you need. My cats are smart, they trained me well once they got my undivided attention which took them awhile.
Your cat might have other issues than mine do. If you pay more to attention to him, he will tell you what his problem is, you just have to listen when he talks. He might be trying to tell you something important!
Good luck

Water will not help. He clearly wants something. When my cats meow loudly, they are either in heat, or just want out. Being that you have a male, I suppose he just wants to go outside.

are you playing with him? do you feed him enough? well i dont think that spraying him with water will help. cuz if he is depressed that will make it worse and if he is hungry that will make him think you dont care, so my advice is just to play with him and to take care with him, i have few sites that might help.
good luck!
