When you are injured, the body tries to repair the injured place. It sends lymph to this place, because lymph contains nutrients and cell building blocks, so the cells have enough raw materials to work with. Besides, lymph contains many white blood cells, and they are needed in a wound, because through an wound many bacteria enter your skin, and the white blood cells kill the bacteria. And the lymph (it is a clear yellow fluid) gets into the cells and makes them swell.
