Because although you are preventing the birth of you as you are now, what happens to the you that went back in time? Surely that you still exists?

depends, do you want to write this question before or after you go back. After?... not you. Before, you. You have to exist to write this question and go back in time, You'd make a paradox. Splitting dimensions, one you exist and go back to kill your father and self, the other you live on to go back in time.
Or maybe he wasn't you're real father and you'd be stuck with the guy your mom ran away from maybe.
