My kids are not teens yet, but they're gorwing up too damn fast. They grow of clothes within months, hockey equipment I bought last November doesn't fit, they seem more mature and independant. I wish they would slow down....they're outgrowing my grey hair....

When there are people out there telling children they have control in their household I'd say yes, they are being confused on their role of son and daughter and coerced into sabotaging their own childhood. Parents who are blind to this need to wake up and realize parenting is a job and part of that is teaching a child that - he said/she said - or does, even IF it's an adult doing or saying is not allowed in this home. This allows and instructs a child to stop wasting their time attempting to be in charge and allows more time for family, friendship, and growing space....good question.

Definitely. It bothers me when girls are coming out of the elementary school dressed like they think they are 16. It used to drive me crazy shopping for my daughter and the "mary kate & ashley" clothes they have out for 7 yr olds to dress like women of the evening if you get my drift. It takes a lot of awareness on part of the parent these days to keep your kids from starting that stuff to young and unfrotunatly a lot of parents are too busy scrambling to make ends meet and their kids are raised by what they pick up at school and daycare. You have to start really teaching them morals, values, and a sense of self early on. It is not as simple as "don't lie, don't steal". You have to have many repeated heartfelt talks through thier whole life. Too many women grow up to be abused, taken advantage of, ect. So it is really important. My 14 yr old daughter has a dress code, no make up, no dating. I don't even have to fight her on the dress code and make up because she has a very defined sense of self and knows she doesn't need to look like a tramp for people to like her. The dating thing is becoming a bit more of a stuggle these days as she sees her friends dating. But she has also seen the outcome of two emotionally unprepared people in a relationship , so she defnitly understands our reasons for it.

Because most parents these days are too self involved and the girls have to rely on other sources for information which is usually the internet or tv, it's truly sad.
